LIGEIA by Edgar Allan Poe (part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival)

LIGEIA by Edgar Allan Poe will be presented in the Cannonball Festival, part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, at Asian Arts Initiative (1219 Vine St). This intimate physical theatre adaptation of the gothic masterpiece will run September 16-19.
Obsession for the lost LIGEIA spirals into madness in Poe’s haunting tale of unutterable grief and unimaginable terror. As chilling evidence of a supernatural presence mounts, the audience wonders: are the narrator’s visions caused by opium, or has his wife’s corpse been possessed?
Rather than dramatizing the events of the plot, LIGEIA emphasizes the physical action of storytelling itself. Remaining faithful to Poe’s original text, solo-performer William Trevino weaves poetic language with his decades of martial arts practice to create a visceral atmosphere of suspense. A 6th degree black belt in Soo Bahk Do and a veteran Poe performer, Trevino transforms martial arts movement to embody the psychological struggles of Poe’s narrator.
William Trevino’s work devising theatre from martial arts has been presented in NYC (including at Dixon Place and HERE Arts Center) with support from the Jerome Foundation and the Queens Arts Fund. His Poe performances have ranged from presenting The Tell-Tale Heart at the Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum in Baltimore, to hosting the television series Gothic Tales on Manhattan Neighborhood Network/MNN.
LIGEIA by Edgar Allan Poe will be presented on September 16 (9:00 PM), 17 (6:00 PM), and 19 (3:30 PM) at Asian Arts Initiative (1219 Vine St, Philadelphia, PA 19107) as part of Cannonball, a presenting hub of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. General Admission is $25, with PWYC (pay what you can) tickets available.

The Vampire's Library: Horror Book Fair

“Bucks County is a great place to enjoy ‘Spooky Season’ and on Saturday, September 26, we’re kicking it off with Books! Lore and literature meet at the first-ever VAMPIRE’S LIBRARY Horror Book Fair, held on the grounds of VAMPA Vampire and Paranormal Museum in Doylestown.
The free-to-enter event will include some of the finest horror authors in Pennsylvania and surrounding areas, selling and signing their terrifying tomes to help readers and horror fans build the perfect To Be Read pile for the Halloween season.
Award-winning author Gwendolyn Kiste will be premiering her brand-new book, In These Gilded, Ghostly Hearts, and recent Bram Stoker Award winner A.C. Wise will have copies of her new novel, Ballad of the Bone Road. There will be scary stories for all ages, as Young Adult author of A Misfortune of Lake Monsters, Nicole N. Wolverton will be there and Middle Grade author of The Haunting of Bellington Cottage, Laura Parnum.
Other authors LCW Allingham, Jeremiah Dylan Cook, William J. Donahue, River Eno, Lauren A. Forry, Amanda Headlee, Theo Hill, TT Madden, and R.B. Shifman. In addition, horror publishers Agita Publishing, Dracula Beyond Stoker, Speculation Publications, and Book Worms Zine will have their creepy catalogues available.
Live readings will be held within the on-site Vampire Sanctuary throughout the day so you will have the opportunity to sample some of the terrifying tales available at the festival and meet your new favorite author
While you’re there, you can purchase a ticket for a self-guided tour through the infamous VAMPA Museum, curated by Ed Crimi and his terrifying team.
